The team tasked with overhauling the city’s student assignment system meets at City Hall on Nov. 29. The 27-member group, known as the External Advisory Committee and appointed by Mayor Thomas Menino, will meet at 6 p.m. on the ninth floor.

The committee is weighing a number of proposals, some of which split the city into more zones and others that move away from drawing lines that determine where students will go to school. The current system, over two decades old, splits the city into three large zones, with Dorchester and Mattapan in the East Zone.

On Thurs., Dec. 6, the committee will meet again in City Hall at 6 p.m. to talk about its final recommendation to Superintendent Carol Johnson. The final recommendation could come the week of Dec. 10, with Johnson possibly presenting a recommendation on Dec. 19. The School Committee will likely vote on the final proposal in mid-January.
