Lower Mills may see discolored water from MWRA work

As the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority wraps up its rehabbing of a major pipeline, Lower Mills and Milton residents could see discolored water starting next week.

The agency said Friday that starting on Monday, Dec. 19, the final phase of the pipe project could cause discolored water for up to three days near the area of Dorchester Ave., Gallivan Blvd., Morton St., Reedsdale Rd., Central Ave. and Brook Rd., east of the Expressway.

“If discolored water does occur, it is a result from a small amount of iron in local pipes,” the agency said in a statement. “While it is still safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Therefore, residents near this location should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work. Please call MWRA at 617-305-5950 if you have any questions or concerns.”
