Ashmont Grill dinner to aide homeless families

Brookview House, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, that serves homeless families, will hold its fourth annual benefit "The 2008 End of the Summer Wine Tasting" event on Saturday, Sept. 13. The fund-raiser scheduled from 3:30 to 6 p.m. will feature a four-course dinner, wine tasting and a presentation about the activities of Brookview House. The event will be held at Ashmont Grill, 555 Talbot Ave.

"All proceeds will benefit the 30 women and over 120 children we are offering shelter at this point of time," said Mercedes Tompkins, director of development at the Brookview House, which is located near Franklin Field. Tompkins said that last year's event raised around $20,000.

Since 1990, Brookview House has been providing assistance to homeless families with a referral from the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance.

"We provide rental and transitional housing, and health, education and career related workshops for homeless moms and kids," Tompkins said. Brookview House assists women with cleaning credit reports and offers direct counseling services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

"The homeless people have the ability to change their lives. We support them by providing social capital to fulfill their wishes and dreams," Tompkins added.

Tickets, $40, at the door and can be purchased in advance. For details or to reserve a place, call Angela Veale at 617-265-2965 ext 207; brookviewhouse.org/events!.html
