Mattapan boasts many different amenities, but to date it hasn’t had its own road race. That’s changing this summer with a 5k walk and run in the works for Sat., Aug 9.

A group of community organizations, including Cummins Highway Neighborhood Association, Greater Mattapan Neighborhood Council, and Mattapan Food & Fitness will sponsor a race and wellness festival.

The route will be a 1.5-mile loop along River Street and the Neponset Greenway walking path, starting and ending at Ryan Playground.

Walkers will be encouraged to do one lap, while the 5k will require two laps. All abilities are encouraged, as are first-time runners/walkers.
