Committee votes in favor of Walsh's nomination to be Labor Secretary

A United States Senate committee this morning moved ahead Mayor Marty Walsh's nomination to be the next US Labor Secretary in a rapid-fire vote that now positions him for a confirmation vote before the full US Senate in the coming days. The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions voted 18-4 to "report favorable" on Walsh's nomination.

The vote came after a hearing held last Thursday (Feb. 4) in which Walsh breezed through a series of questions posed by Democrats and Republicans on the committee. It is not yet clear when the full Senate will take up a vote the nomination, but Mayor Walsh is expected to be confirmed by the Democrat-controlled body.
