O'Neill Tunnel to close to southbound traffic overnight this weekend

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) says it will close the I-93 expressway in the Tip O’Neill Tunnel in Boston during the overnight hours Friday, May 1, and on Saturday, May 2 for "milling and paving operations." The southbound tunnel will begin to close each night at 9:00 p.m. and by 11:00 p.m. each night, all southbound lanes in the tunnel will be closed.

Lanes of travel will reopen by 6:00 a.m. the next morning.

In addition to travel restrictions on I-93 southbound, there will be ramp closures as needed in this area. Law enforcement details will be used to guide drivers through the work zones and along detour routes.

"Drivers traveling through the impacted areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution," the agency said.
