Carney Hospital received its first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine today and began distributing them to staff members, who will receive the vaccine in a phased approach according to criteria outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

Said Dr. Adrian Velasquez, one of the first team members to receive COVID vaccine this morning: “As a frontline worker working in the ICU, this was an incredible opportunity and privilege. Getting the COVID vaccine is not only to protect myself but mostly to protect others. Our ICU team has been working tirelessly throughout this pandemic, and getting this vaccine is definitely a big boost to them. I also want to show my patients that I am comfortable in getting COVID vaccine, and I trust the science behind it. I hope that I can lead by being an example and this would help alleviate people’s concerns in getting the vaccine. I am thankful and proud of Carney team for being able to rapidly arrange the logistics in administering the vaccine to the hospital staff and frontline workers.”
