After defeating New England College to win the regional bracket in the Division 3 College World Series playdown, the UMass Boston Beacons (37-14) traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, over the weekend hoping to advance farther, but it was not to be. Southern California’s Chapman University eliminated the Columbia Point nine via back-to-back wins on Sunday and Monday, each time by a score of 8-4. “This was such a fun group that just put us on a different stratosphere,” 15-year UMass-Boston coach Brendan Eygabroat told the Boston Globe. “The way that they’ve competed has been great.”
