Celebrity Series to bring live music to Dorchester, Mattapan

The Celebrity Series of Boston, a non-profit performing arts presenting organization, will present three free concerts over the upcoming week as part of its Neighborhood Arts partnership that brings free concerts to community venues.

The Jason Palmer Quintet will present a jazz holiday concert in collaboration with the Summer Street Brass Band this Saturday, December 7 at 3:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Kroc Center at 650 Dudley Street in Dorchester. Palmer, a world renowned trumpet player based in Boston, has led the house band at Wally’s Jazz Cafe for the last fifteen years. The concert is a free but ticketed event; tickets can be reserved at celebrityseries.org.

Dorchester Stringfest, a celebration that will feature Voci Angelica Trio and the Conservatory Lab Charter School, will take place at 3:00 p.m. this Saturday, December 14 at the Salvation Army Kroc Center at 650 Dudley Street in Dorchester. Voci Angelica is an international vocal, cello, and percussion trio that hails from three continents. The group, comprised of Jodi Hitzhusen, Meena Malik, and Aristides Rivas, blends world folk music and classical music to form a global, culture-bending sound. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Devin Ferreira Collaborative, a group led by music educator Devin Ferreira, will perform next Thursday, December 19 at 6:00 p.m. at Mattapan Teen Center at 10 Hazleton St. in Mattapan. Ferreira is a Boston based artist-educator who has spent the last decade facilitating youth music programs while pursuing an active professional career as an emcee and saxophonist performing across the United States. He will perform alongside teens from the Inquilinos Boricuas en Accion (IBA) youth group in a multidisciplinary performance. The concert is free and open to the public.
