Man shot repeatedly on Columbia Road; man helping him escape faces gun charges

The Boston Police Department reports arresting a Dorchester man who was helping somebody who'd just been shot run away from the area of Columbia Road and Glendale Street Wednesday evening.

Police say officers on patrol saw flashes from guns and heard numerous rounds fired around 8 p.m. yesterday. Then they saw three guys run into a nearby yard while two other guys ran down Columbia toward Bird Street.

On catching up to the duo, officers discovered one had been shot several times. The victim, 20, was taken to Boston Medical Center and is expected to survive, police say.

"The second was pat-frisked for officer safety. During the frisk, officers seized a loaded black .22 caliber revolver from the male, identified as 19-year-old Leonardo Gutierrez of Dorchester," police say.

Gutierrz was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, police say.
