Fields Corner pizza joint seized by state officials— again

A popular Fields Corner pizzeria has been shuttered for the second time in two years for non-payment of taxes. Hi Fi Pizza on Dorchester Ave. was raised and seized by state officials on April 30.

A spokesperson for the state's Department of Revenue confirmed the news to the Reporter.

"Hi Fi Pizza [Axos Enterprises, Inc.] at 1508 Dorchester Avenue was seized Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014, for non-payment of $14,323.99 in taxes. Included in that amount were taxes owed for meals, local meals tax and withholding," stated Maryann Merigan, a spokesperson for the DOR.

The popular Fields Corner eatery was shut down in January 2013 for the same reason. In that instance, the outstanding bill to the state was $26,559.89 — a delinquent tax bill that dated back to November 2005.

A large orange sign plastered with the words "SEIZED" was posted on the pizzeria's front door after agents changed the locks. The scene was repeated this week and frustrated customers once again took to social media to spread the word.

Last year, owner Prodomos Hatzistefanou of West Roxbury re-opened a few days later after reaching a payment agreement with the state.
