A Boston City Council committee has scheduled a public hearing for Friday at noon on the request by the Suffolk Downs casino developer for a referendum vote on Nov. 5. There's disagreement in the city over whether the vote should be held in East Boston only, where the casino would be located, or citywide. The vote will be held in East Boston unless the city council intervenes and votes to make it citywide.
The panel that will hold the hearing is the Committee on Economic Development and Planning, which is chaired by Councilor Bill Linehan of South Boston. According to a hearing notice, the public is invited to testify. The hearing falls four days before Boston voters are scheduled to trim a field of 12 candidates for mayor down to two finalists.
